Starchy Foods

Starchy foods are our main source of carbohydrates which have an important role in our healthy diets. These foods such as, pasta, potatoes, bread, and rice make up just over a third of the food you eat. When consuming them try and go for wholegrain varieties and eat potatoes with their skin on for more fibre. You can look at what food and how much you should be consuming on the eatwell guide. https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/the-eatwell-guide/

Fibre can be found in different foods such as potato skins, wholegrain bread, breakfast cereals, brown rice, and wholewheat pasta. Fibre can help keep your bowels healthy and can help you feel full so therefore you will be eating less. It makes wholegrain starchy foods a good choice to eat if you are trying to loose weight.

Tips for eating more starchy food:

  • Try having plain porridge with fruit
  • Choose wholegrain cereals
