Healthy Breakfast Ideas

If you struggle with eating breakfast and skip it most of the time, then these could be right for you. Breakfast is one of the most important meals as it gets you started for the day, helps you to keep up your energy. Research tends to suggest that people who do eat breakfast tend to be slimmer as they eat less during the day, especially fewer high-calorie snacks. If you are short on time, then try waking up ten minutes earlier or getting chores done the day before.

Scrambled Eggs on Toast


  • 2 eggs
  • 2tbsp of semi-skimmed milk
  • 2 slices of wholemeal toast
  • 2tbsp of low-fat spread

Lightly mix the eggs and milk in a bowl. Melt the low-fat spread in a pan and add the egg mixture. Cook over a medium heat, whilst stirring slowly until they are set. Serve the eggs on the two slices of toast sprinkled with pepper.

Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Bagel:


  • Slices of smoked salmon
  • Wholegrain bagel
  • Low-fat cream cheese

Place the two halves of the bagel in the toaster. When cooked spread a thin layer of low-fat cream cheese on the bagel and place the salmon on top.

Overnight Oats


  • 2tbsp of low-fat yoghurt
  • 50g of rolled oats
  • Variety of mixed berries

Combine the oats and low-fat yoghurt together in a container or a jar. Place the lid on and let it sit in the fridge overnight. In the morning add your berries and a drizzle of honey.

Very Berry Smoothie


  • One banana
  • 140g of frozen berries
  • 100ml of apple juice

Blend the banana with the frozen berries until smooth. With the blades whizzing, start adding the apple juice until you reach the consistency you desire. Remember to try and limit yourself to 150ml of fruit juices and smoothies a day.
