Calories in Alcohol
Did you know that a lot of alcoholic drinks are high in calories? A standard glass of wine can contain as many calories as a piece of chocolate and a pint of beer the same as a packet of crisps. So, if you are wanting to lose weight then consider drinking less alcohol as it is all around better for your body. Alcohol can affect your health in many different ways from: increased blood pressure, weight gain and kidney failure. By decreasing the amount of alcohol you consume this will also save you money.
Drinking four bottles of wine a month may not seem like a lot to some people however did you know that it can add up to a yearly consumption of 27,000 calories, which can equivalate to 48 Big Macs per year. Drinking 5 pints of larger a week is around 10 units which isn’t going over the recommended limit however if you have this every single week then it can add up to 44,200 calories which can be equivalent to eating 221 doughnuts. Obviously, this can lead to an increased weight gain and you may not realise how you are actually gaining weight, so check you are not having an excessive amount of alcohol.
Tips to avoid weight gain:
Men and women are advised to drink no more than 14 units a week and no more than 6 units on one occasion. Some people tend to have a glass of wine or a beer with their meal, try to swap this for a glass of water instead as you can cut back the calories and can help you to stop becoming dehydrated. If you still would like a drink of wine for example why not add some soda to it as it can taste just as nice but can reduce the amount and how frequently you are consuming it.
Eating a healthy dinner before you start drinking alcohol is wise so at the end of the night you do not choose the less healthy options such as chips or a kebab. Also, if you are drinking, don’t do it on an empty stomach as it reaches your bloodstream faster and can lead to a state of inebriation that isn’t good for your health. If you are trying to cut down on alcohol, then try with a friend or a partner as if you and other person are doing the same thing then it is more likely that you will stick to it as you will be receiving moral support.
